Think for yourself!

Going "green" is a good idea in and of itself but when it is taken to the extreme like certain political groups etc. are attemting to do, it hurts more than anything. My best advice is, the good Lord gave us all a brain; so let's put it to use and use some common sense when considering ideas such as this. Ex. If it will cost you more money to implement a "green" concept than you will get in cost savings, then that doesn't make much sense now, does it?

Small Steps

At our office we are trying harder to take small steps. Recycle more, use mugs for customer visits, consume less soda and other products that create a lot of waste. They are not huge steps but they help.

Which green are we talking about?

'Going Green' is a nice idea but not a critical purpose for business. If the 'going green' helps save or make money, that's great - witness the comments included about more efficient light bulbs and turning off computers as a cost savings - but the idea that changing a business (i.e. incurring added costs) to try and be more green is misguided as a business. Business should focus on maximizing profits and everything else is a nice bonus but not crucial.

Turning the computers off overnight

I even found the heat in my office to be better when the computer doesn't run all night. I know the electric bill has been impacted and it gives my equipment a break too. Such an easy habit to change.

I'm actually saving money!!

I was skeptical about how going going "green" could actually save me money, but I thought I'd give it a try. In my office I have replaced all my light bulbs with more energy efficient ones and adjusted my thermostat and over the last year have saved over $700!! I spent more money at first on the new bulbs, but I do think it has been worth it. If anyone has any other easy tips for me - please let me know!!
