Initial Fees and Licenses in Utah

If you're going to operate your business in Utah, when you start up you're likely to incur filing fees and licensing fees depending on the type of business you run and your business form (corporation, sole proprietorship, partnership or limited liability company (LLC)).

Domestic and Foreign Corporations and LLCs. If you're doing business as a domestic corporation (a corporation incorporated in Utah) or as a foreign corporation (a corporation incorporated outside of Utah) in Utah, you will be subject to various fees when you start up. The following are some of the filing requirements and payments by both domestic and foreign corporations to the Utah Department of Commerce, Division of Corporations and Commercial Code:

Articles of incorporation (domestic) or certificate of authority (foreign) $70
Amendment fee $37
Annual renewal fee $12

Filing fees for articles of organization or certificates of authority for LLCs are $70, the same as for corporations.

Business licenses and fees. Utah requires that you obtain a license and pay a fee if you are operating certain types of businesses in the state. Below is a partial list of some of the types of businesses required to obtain a license. Be sure to check with the state to make sure you are complying with the license requirements for your particular profession.

  • real estate appraiser certification
  • real estate broker/sales agent license
