IRS 501C.3 Status - application and response time

My sister and I are currently unemployed. We have diligently been working on starting a new company. We have everything filed with the State and the Federal. However, just found out that the IRS is first processing 501C.3 - non-profit status applications from June 2009. With this lag time, and if they continue at this rate, our company could not officially open for business until June or July 2010. Has anyone been fortunate enough to find away around this process or found a way to expedite this matter? HELP....

IRS 501C.3 Status - application and response time

The IRS normally responds with their initial review within 3 or 4 weeks after the postmark date of your Form 1023 submission. They process them based on when they are received. My experience has been that they are very good when it comes to completing the initial review and responding within 3 weeks. They key is to submit a complete application. Send with delivery confirmation so that you will know when they received it. If you don't hear from them after 3 or 4 weeks, you should call.
